Running Accomplishments:

'Just started! -Again!

Short-Term Running Goals:

Increase my energy levels so that I can keep up with my demanding jobs (Mother of Five, Wife of Father of Five, Chef, Housekeeper, Uncertified Phone Counselor, to name a few:). Strengthen my heart and improve my circulation. Grow some muscles! (It's about time!) Run four miles at once... sometime in the next 2 yrs, anyway. :)

Long-Term Running Goals:

I'd like to still have the strength and energy to do things when I'm old. I'd also like to stay in one peice until then!

Personal:

I have been married almost 9 years to Practically-Perfect Jeremy. We have five dear children 7yo and under. I rollerbladed as a teenager. For 18 mo, I walked a few times a week until about a year ago. I tried running w/ wonderful running partner last year, but that tapered off. We had a hard time matching schedules and I wasn't committed enough to do it alone. After an inspiring meeting with Sasha and Sarah, I am recommitted to regular exercise. I may run, or I may fast-walk. The point is to get MOVING, again. Please bear with my pitiful mileage. Supermommy runs all day, and doing that properly is my #1 priority.

I am dying. I am dead. I hurt everywhere. With my vigorous running last night, I accessed muscles I didn't know I had, and every last one hurts. Ohhhh I think I'm going to take Lybi's advice and start slow. Ouch.

I don't know. I wasn't actually running for two miles. I tried. I just was still too sore. Hopefully tomorrow I won't feel as poorly, since my running is an easier pace.

I ran with Lybi "over the river and through the woods" from her house to mine.  ...You may be able to tell from the mileage it's not much of a trip, but it actually was a great accomplishment for me.  It seemed so far when Lybi suggested it.  I really feel great that I made it, with only brief breaks to walk.  Lybi is such a great friend.

Lybi and I ran around my neighborhood after my children went to bed. It wasn't too awful hot. We tried to recruit my walking buddy, too, but (knowing we'd be coming) she just HAPPENNED to have all her lights out by 8:40pm... hm...

As Lybi said, I ran a mile for the first time. Ever. That was exciting. I would have celebrated more if I hadn't been so winded.:) When it was time for me to run the mile when I was in school as a child, well, it wasn't pretty. hehe I was awesome at tag and short races, but when my side started hurting, I would stop. 'Anyone know what that sharp pain in the side means/is?

I was feeling a little under the weather, but ran w/ Lybi, anyway. I'll be ok. The night was not as cool as it has been, lately. I can't wait until fall - my favorite time of year.

They were really slow miles, w/ some walking interspersed. I can hardly believe I made it. I was very tired to start with. I am trying really hard not to get sick. Three of my children have a cold. Does anyone have any experience with the appropriate time to run/not run when illness strikes?

I ran around Lybi's neighborhood w/ her. She is a hoot. She kept trying to get me to go through sprinklers. 8) My body felt so heavy and it was harder to run than any other day, so far. I was SO slow and tired that my feet were literally scraping the road some of the time... There are a couple different things I could chalk this up to, being slightly sick one of them.

Woo-hoo! I ran w/ my walking buddy, Paige, tonight! That was so cool. She is looking for a different and fun form of exercise right now. I hope she likes this! She is fun to talk to and I know Lybi will enjoy her, too. She lives in my neighborhood. She did well, and being as athletic as she is, I felt SO much better about my OWN first night of running a few weeks ago, which pretty much looked like hers. I felt like such a weak newbie my first night, because I couldn't run very long at once, even going really slowly.

Now I see that even these few weeks I HAVE made some progress (and of course Paige will even more quickly, if she sticks with it, because she used to be able to run a mile, and I NEVER had8). -Really cool!

Lybi's right - it is even more fun to get someone else started. I understand if she decides not to stick with it, but this was still exciting. :D

On a more serious note, I do think Sasha is onto something. I think I have been trying to run for too long at once. When I'm running, I feel like I need to take a little walking break much more often than I actually do. Lybi would let me, but I am trying to push myself. I am not doing myself any favors by burning myself out, though. I am really glad I got a chance to see that I have made perceptable progress in this short time. I think I will make even more if I switch off the walking more - I know I could do more mileage if I did.

One more thing - I have had stiffness in my ankles in the mornings. I notice it when I come down the stairs. I have been stretching them by walking on my toes up the stairs when I'm not carrying one of my babies, but I still feel this stiffness mounting up. Any suggestions of what to do to avoid/relieve this? As I said before, I want to be able to WALK when I'm old!

I ran 2 mi w/ Lybi AND Paige in the late evening, and it was so fun! We gave up on using the sidewalk (it's harder, anyway), and ran on the asphalt in a row down the roads in my neighborhood. Paige really pushed herself and ran longer than I could. She said it was easier to ignore feeling tired w/ someone to talk to. I am trying to walk, as Sasha suggested, when I feel I need to, to avoid exercising anaerobically. It's been a really good thing -- I don't feel as worn out and sore and thus reluctant to run again.

I experienced a strange phenomenon - after running and taking a walk twice, I actually was able to run much further the third stretch. I was surprised when that happenned, because I've come to expect feeling more tired as I go along, (except while walking, of course).

It was exciting to see my friends getting along so swimmingly the first time they met! :D

Paige said she's going w/ us next week, too - yay!

I felt great the next day.

Well, I didn't run, but this is still a HIGHLIGHT of my running, uh, endeavor! I just realized a 5k is only 3 miles! I am SO excited! I totally never connected we are talking about KILOMETERS and not miles. I feel so silly! -But good! Three miles I can do. :D!

The fast mile, as Lybi called it, was ROLLERBLADING! hehe I LOVED rollerblading as a teen! It was such a blast. THAT is flying! My sister's been wanting to get out and exercise, so Lybi and I took our little red contagious exercise wagon to HER neighborhood (not literally... well, not exactly) and joined her in her preferred form of exercise! She had fun and so did we. THEN, at all hours of the night, we ran two miles more by Lybi's house. dah! That was a little crazy, and my knee did not like it. I could have stopped earlier, but I didn't feel tired until JUST before it hurt. It feels OK as I walk around today, so I'm hoping I can run on it tonight without a problem. That's my first injury. lol I didn't even DO anything!

They weren't running miles -- they were rollerblading. Since I DID feel my knee that day, just going about my business, I was nervous to pound the pavement by running. I also had a bad afternoon and needed to fly a little. :)

I went w/ Paige and my sister. We went even further with Paige than with Lybi. Paige kept up pretty well, and even declared a Gurr sister race (we married brothers). Poor Paige blew a wheel halfway back to my sister's house, and had to carry her skates and run in her socks! She was back there, biding her time, while we rollerbladed alternating fast and slow so we wouldn't get too far ahead of her. Then, all of the sudden, she passed us, running like her LEGS were wheels, saying, "Wanna race, girls?" :D It was amazing and so funny! She was ultra-fast. I tried, but couldn't THINK of beating her on rollerblades (at least not from the speed I was starting at... but maybe not at all). It was fun to see that side of Paige. She is super-sweet, but at that point, I saw she knew how to have fun being competitive, too.

Lybi and I did an easy run the night before her 5k. It was short & sweet. The best part was stretching to "Psych" afterward. She's never seen the show before. It totally cracks me up, so it was fun to see how she liked it.

Paige and I ran and walked around our neighborhood. It was still pretty hot, but the company was good.

Lybi and I ran around her neighborhood in the evening. It was very warm, but there were some pretty clouds and a big moon out (and a couple yards of sprinklers:). When I had to stop and walk, she kept running! -I just took long walking steps, and we stayed together! It actually worked out rather nicely, I think. I had to really push myself to finish. (Lybi helped. hehe) It was nice to run long enough to talk about both our days.
